One image: New York City in the 1990s

posted by brad wong on 2010.03.14, under context, history

I was working in Salinas, Calif. in 1995. But I had visited New York City before.

That year, I thought it would be great to return for a visit. I forgot exactly where I came across this scene. But I’m glad that I did.

Even in 1995, people in many parts of the world considered New York City to be the globe’s capital, the coolest place around.

I like the fact that this artist gave people a nice reminder about what helps the globe spin a little bit better.

I presume, too, that the artist really meant what was written in black ink. And of course, there might be some who think that the idea of being nice is admirable.

But they might say there is no law that requires people to act that way – especially with strangers.

I’m taking this artist and message at face value.
